Portable chargers are not my style except for an emergency.
If you can pull wire close to the battery and mount a good converter right there.... this solution is always the very best.
Elixer just provides a steady 13.6 volts to slowly charge the battery and provide power to the 12v accessories. There is no separate charging circuit. You can leave it in place or disconnect 120v power to disable it.
For the Trojans I highly recommend the PD9260-14.8 converter. This is a deck mount and can be mounted near the power center, possibly replace the Elixer unit directly, or mount near the battery. Connect to the same bus as the Elixer and let it rip.
