I am not a super expert on elixer but I think the converter itself is behind those fans.
Remove elixer, insert PD. No need to replace the distribution panel.
Yes pull the whole business out so you can see the wires and it will all start to make sense. Unplug and disconnect the battery before you start. Mark polarity on anything disconnected.
#8 wire to the battery is adequate, #6 is much better. If pulling wire you want #4 for the entire battery loop including ground connections.
If you buy from Best Converter, Randy can also help with the technicals. He has seen them all.
Just don't let him sell you a different converter.
