Champion has a remote start version but I don't think Costco carries it. As far as the 2800 vs 3100, the way it was explained to me is Costco wanted the machine labeled with the continuous load rating because they didn't want to deal with returns when buyers misunderstood the surge vs running watts. They have a generous return policy that I took advantage of when my first Champion got an electrical glitch the first week of use. They are the same generators. The remote start would be a nice feature.
