Bearing Buddies

I just Installed new hand packed wheel bearings. I was wondering if bearing Buddies would be a good idea?

  • I'd check with your axle builder. I've had excellent service with EZ-Lubes over the last 25 years and 4 trailers. Never had a bearing or brake problem. Good luck.
  • I'm not sure why trailers need bearing buddies. They make a lot of sense when you have them on a boat trailer. You can pump in grease to push out any water. But on a TT or FW, all you'll wind up doing is pumping grease past the oil seals and make a mess. Even though I have these on my trailer, I don't use them. Once a year, I pull the hubs, inspect the brakes and hand pack the bearings.

I'm sure others will have their $.02 to add.
  • They won't hurt anything, but they won't really help anything, either. Bearing buddies are intended to keep water out of trailer bearings when launching your boat.
