bearing buddy type deally

hey all. I'm working on getting my newly acquired 1991 prowler 19e road worthy. what's everyone's thoughts on bearing buddies and their competitors? Was thinking something like these princess auto knock offs? http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/2-pc-1-78-in-dust-cap-and-grease-fitting/A-p8263972e is it worth it or better to just yank the dust caps and repack? never really used them much but the concept seems great if it works.
  • Bad idea. BB are to pressurize boat trailer bearings to keep water out.

They do not put fresh grease in the rollers where it could help. There are axles that do that, but you can't duplicate a drilled axle with the BB.

He isn't kidding either. I agree greasing the bearings by hand beats having your brakes greased with bearing buddies. :( It isn't a good feeling to be driving down the road and suddenly finding out your trailer doesn't have good brakes anymore.

  • they are not junk.if you service your bearings on a regular basis they work as they are supposed to.if you get a blown seal its because you over greased them.

  • There is risk of seal blowout with some of these dust cap zerk fitting systems. The original Bearing Buddy's had a channel to the outside of the dust cap and as long as grease didn't harden it was a good system. Boaters love them. For a travel trailer, repacking the bearings by removing the hubs on a periodic maintenance schedule is a better idea, IMO.
