So its getting close to that time where my 16ft trailer is finally starting to get too small for my family. Ive been doing some research on upgrading to a: rear bath, 26ft(or so), under 5500lbs dry weight, and came across a couple that tickled my fancySo far the front runner is Dutchman Kodiak Express 223rbls. Why is it people look at unrealistic terms like "dry" or "shipping" weights when looking for an RV? No one has ever towed a "dry" trailer. You need to start thinking in terms like fully loaded in your research.

I look at dry weight because i know im going to add a thousand pounds of random to it when i travel. so 6500lbs or so is my ideal maximum weight i want to tow due to the capabilities of my truck:-)

Too small for your family? What is your family size? Kids?Cause those trailers only have the one bed. (using the table and couch full time is a pain).If you DO have kids, I would shop for a bunkhouse. Otherwise, you could find yourself outgrowing again....Both nice units though!

Dry weight... is meaningless..

my trailer dry weight paperwork is 7,500 pounds
and I weighted my trailer... DRY.. nothing in it...anywhere..is 8,500 pounds..
yes, (1) battery, (2) 30# propane tanks... but that's it.. 8,500 pounds..
I have no idea where the extra 800 pounds are at..

did it not include the factory fold-out couch... the slide... water heater...
refrigerator, stove.

thankfully my F 250 is up to the job.

ADDED.... I purchased the trailer 2 months ago.. I weighted it 3 days ago.

Some people are fully capable of doing the math (1 + 1 = 2) and determining for themselves what the trailer will weigh fully loaded and ready to camp. Not to mention the myriad of calculators available on line to help with "what-if" scenarios. That is how I and many other people found their trailer.

Having cleared all that up, maybe now the OP can start to get an answer to the question that was asked instead of all the hypothetical questions.

Real world your probbly grossly inaccurate with your 1000 pound guess.
And, for you GVWR naysayers all I can tell you is next trip out drive across a set of scales. You just might be in for a real surprise.
BTW, my fiver has a GVWR of 13,750 and I generally scale at 13,500 pounds. And we do not load heavy.

The OP has been camping for years. He knows how much he adds, Just like I do. Weight my last TT loaded to camp. I actually added only 650lb to the dry weight. Put the same stuff minus a little in this one. Experience will win out. And like I said. The GVWR is a totally useless number. UNLESS it is very close to the dry weight. Yellow sticker dry will get you in the ballpark
