One has to be careful when it comes to payload. I had a 2002 F-150 two wheel drive. The sales sticker showed the standard towing package plus an option that gave it and extra 500 lbs. of payload.
Not having towed a TT since the 1970’s we decided to rent a 25 ft. TT with slide, it was well within the listed F-150 truck limits. However, what I did not know was that this F-150 also had the low emissions package; which was a fancy way of saying it had a 200 hp. V-6.
10 days in the Ozarks with a top speed of 50 to 55 mph and having to play the gas pedal to keep it from down shifting was a TV lesson well learned.
What looks good on paper, extra weight capacity and low emissions features, does not always work out in the real world.
Yes you can dump a ton of fertilized on the bed of a half-ton a couple of times a year and never notice the wear and tear but that is different than towing for an extended period of time.
Floor plan, Tow Vehicle and Cost all have to be a good match.
