If you are using s SuperTruss or other extension, a rear pointed exhaust should have enough gap. I have s friend with s flatbed that had the mudflap in front of the exhaust tailpipe. It didn't take long for the lower section to melt off where it contacted the pipe. My pipe is between the tires and flap. It will get more abuse from items kicked up from the tires, but the flap will not melt on the pipe.
