Well, quite the opposite. He's a machinist with 50 years of experience, can diagnose just about any issue, installed too many gear sets to count, and has rebuilt probably over 100 engines. So no, he's not a shade tree mechanic, I just over simplified the explanation simply because he told me he'd run through the diagnostics. To be more specific he's certain that the forward clutch assembly has failed. That is why we're look to find the cheapest option for a reman transmission.
Taking the time to rebuild the current trans is not an option. We need to get the van back in service ASAP. Also, we'll be keeping the van for a long time which is why I'm asking for a good quality OEM reman for the best price. We won't be towing anything with the van, just transportation only, so no need for an overbuilt unit.
