I tow over 6000 lbs just fine with my gas motorhome, just cause it has a hitch rated at 5000 lbs does not mean you cant upgrade hitch and tow more, just make sure the trailer has good brakes..
Many RV's have a rear extension off the vehicle frame that limits what it can tow - it makes no difference what receiver you hang off the the RV frame extension. In these cases, you have to build a sub frame or beef up the weaker RV frame and how it splices into the vehicle.
