I know one thing that doesn't work. I tried using the foil type of duct tape. It'll split after 60 miles. It was a last resort when I first noticed the split metal corner.
The Eternabond will "not" hold a splitting corner together.
A few things that may help,
A picture here would really help us suggest something that might work, but some of us cannot envision the actual mechanical problem from the word description. If we see what you are up against, then we can try to give a better fix to structurally hold the joint.
Once the joint is held, then there are ways to seal it from leaking and Eternabond may be part of that sealing solution. Foil tape and even good duct tape is many times stronger in tensile strength then Eternabond. But Eternabond is an outstanding water tight seal as long as the seal is not stressed.
Hope this helps
