Best TT for F150 Ecoboost Shortbox?

I may be trying to get too much out of one vehicle. I like to offroad and so would prefer the 145 inch f150 wheelbase Ecoboost. I get that it needs the max tow package and HD payload. But based on another thread I came across, the short wheel base could be an issue, though I don't quite understand why (RV newbie). What is the most TT I can tow? On another thread, someone with the EB said he went from a TT to a FW due to towing issues. Would that make more sense? Many thanks.

That would make way too much sense. :) I am doing it backwards to see if I can by with my TV being my DD and my offroad vehicle! Depending how you look at it, I am either greedy or cheap. I am hoping to tow either a TT or a FW in the 27-30 range. It is looking like I may have to go with two vehicles.
  • for any Ford a teardrop is best ;-)
actually 900 pound tongue weight with about 6000 pounds on the trailer axles would be the limit for pleasant towing.
That would be a trailer with a maximum of about 8100 GVW or so .
Lighter and shorter is easier with any half ton .
900 tongue and 5300 # actual on the axles is better .
We focus on our outside camping , not the inside .
We carry a couple of EZ-UP Quick-Shades and do as much cooking and eating outside as possible .
Those with the awning give us more options for shade or downpours .
    Shorter not longer .

  • HD Payload is not available on Crew Cab with 5.5' box, only with 6.5' box. Maxtow is available on either length of bed.

Shorter wheelbase vehicle may make trailer sway an issue. A lot of TT owners here towing w/ F-150 EB's. Hang tight, they'll be along to relate their experience.
