...how does the Maxxair compared to the Fantastic as far as noise level at any given speed?
I just checked both of my fans and they are nearly identical in terms of noise/sound pressure. Here are my results in dB(A) on LOW-MED-HIGH speeds when measured directly below and 3 feet away from the fan:
MaxxFan 61-64-73
Fantastic Fan 62-65-74
Note that the 1 dB difference between the two fans could easily be attributable to differences in room acoustics and the fact that the sound pressure meter was hand held.
I did not measure the frequency, but I can say that at each speed they sound very similar to one another.
Again, for me, the design of the lid is what separates these two products.
