I love searchtempest!
Previously I was will to drive 400 miles,
Then I had this Bigfoot delivered and it was a steaming pile of yuck. I think someone had left it out in his field for 20 years without looking at it.
There was water damage around all the windows, it had a musty smell, there was a bare lightbulb hanging outside of the door, it had not even been cleaned, the spring coils on the bottom of the mattress had even stained the cover red - rust from moisture. There was a hole in the fiberglass bottom.
I couldn't tell any of that from the photos on the website and in talking to the dealer I told him that if there was any smell or anything that looked damaged inside I would not buy it. Still he had me put a deposit on it and found someone to drive it 4 hours for me to look at it. What a waste of time, especially for that guy. Did not make me want to drive anywhere far to check out any other old campers.
I have found 1-2 good ones locally so I think I will choose from those. Also I'm worried that if I get one somewhere else I will have to buy the truck first in order to transport it home - then perhaps I will get there and not like the camper and get stuck with whatever shape/size of truck I bought for that camper. In town hopefully I can get them kind of together.
Saw a Lance the other day that I really liked, what is the maintenance like on those? This one had an aluminum roof, though I saw another model today that I think has the newer TPO roof.
Thoughts on the 2 roof materials and their maintenance?
