I would look at the yellow tag inside the drivers door for payload. The max payload that Ram publishes is the absolute max. I was looking at it the same way you are and when my truck arrived it was 300# less payload per the yellow tag. Options add up....bed spray, leather trim, running boards and not to forget the bed LED lights.
