I have over 4000 miles with the same setup, except 4 bikes. Quick release fork mounts, and nothing on the back. I've not had any issues with the rear tires walking or anything like that.
I mounted the cleats to a 2x4, and then use couple bolts/wing nuts to secure to the plywood. Works like a champ.
FYI, you can rotate the cleats 20-30 degrees. This allows more room with four bikes.
