This is what I made:
I built a bed divider.
Then added a couple fork rail adapters to the back and repositioned it:
The whole setup was under $100 and works great. I originally thought about the tailgate pad, but I didn't want to lose the use of my backup camera. That thing is invaluable when hitching up.
