As far as a bike rack goes, unfortunately, Road Gear is not manufactured any more. In our former days, when we still had the kids and they were still cute (snicker snicker)... we carried 4 bicycles on this carrier and it held up wonderful. Well, that was over 16 years ago. Since then it carried 2 adult bikes, and since then, carried our bicycle for 2. The thing is rock solid, still today. (and heavy). I've looked for this brand to reappear over the years, but it never has. It folds up flat, has a locking mechanism to the receiver hitch, and has the arm that goes over all the bicycles to lock them so they won't "walk away". See my photos above. We paid about $500 for that bike rack from a Schwinn bicycle dealer that is no longer in business in Carmel, Indiana. At the time, we though the price was absolutely outrageous (and I still think it was), but the durability of that rack has proven it's worth for every penny over the years.
We've used it hundreds of times on the back of the truck too (without the trailer) when we've gone to family, or simply to a park and want to ride bicycles there. It's bounced around on a hitch for over 16 years, and bounced around thousands upon thousands of miles.
Why am I saying all this???? Because it cannot be emphasized enough .... going cheap will result in cheap results! If you want something to last and withstand the stresses, you have to pay the price (not just necessarily in a bike rack, but in every day life too). The Road Gear bike rack was one of the best investments we could have made. It will last us the rest of our lives, and probably through the lives of our grand children now too!
