Does the stuff at Wal-Mart really work or is their a home brew I should try to keep odors at bay?

The same chemicals are used in the portable toilet industry. We've used both liquid and packet versions in the family biz. Settled on packets as they are much less of a mess! And you do not need much water for the casing to dissolve. Just make sure you have a couple gallons of water in the tank.
