RV aftermarket/accessory industry has convinced many they MUST have......
The awful chemical smell did actually come through but only when the toilet was opened for flushing. But it lingered.....
I never have this problem with the biodegradable "Matter" that is normally stored in that tank......
Apparently you have never RV'd to the deep South where the temps can hit 100 and all your 'matter' starts brewing and heating up. The 'correct' chems (NOT perfumed deodorizers) do NOT emit a smell when you flush.
Funny you should mention that you do KNOW that when you flush the smell came INTO your RV. Well so does untreated raw sewage/bacteria from an RV holding tank every time you flush.
There is NO ptrap in an RV like your house toilet it's a straight open shot to the holding tank. Heat that sewage up in warm weather and the smell WILL come into the RV every time you flush.
That is the reason holding tank chemicals are available to treat the raw sewage and prevent raw sewage smell and bacteria from coming into the RV or boat.
Marine/RV holding tank chemicals have been available for years and there are tens of thousands of RV'ers and Boaters that use them
No one convinced us to buy them, it is part of responsible RV'ing.
Everyone can do exactly what they please. Part of being in America!
But IMHO everyone should know 'why' holding tanks chems are sold and used.:W
