We used a product, Odor-los, and it was great. No odors, an enzyme product to help break down solids, easy with 1 - 2 scoops. Never had that "blue stuff" odor. Many swear by the Geo method, which is basic household products and they are very pleased. We used the "blue stuff" back in our mid 80's boating days when there wasn't much else on the market. When we stepped into the boat the next weekend, the odor from the blue stuff would knock you over.
Re TP...we always used just the least $ single ply white stuff we could find. Never any problems, no clogs. RV TP is a pricey item you don't need.
The one thing to remember about the black tank is WATER, plenty of water. If you don't use enough water, the solids will build up in the bottom of the tank and turn into near-concrete. Many hold off dumping until the tank is about 2/3 full. We almost always dumped at the end of each weekend.
