After dumping the black tank on the morning of departure, with the black tank valve open per the book, I'll flush the tank for a few minutes. Then shut off the water, close the valve and then dump the grey water. At dump stations, I don't worry about it. Dump black, then grey and hit the road. I try to get to the dump station early to avoid getting behind people who make a day of it. At the first rest stop, I'll drop a packet in and flush with a full bowl. That stays until the next campground stay.
Same method I've been using for many years.
I've never understood the obsession folks have with trying to clean their black tank. After all, its a 40 gallon tank full of poop. I mean how clean are you really going to get it? :)
