We bought a wand and used it once. Just didn't seem to work that well and it is also a pain to have to get a hose inside your unit when at a dump station. Never used it again after we bought the Hydroflush elbow. With the Hydroflush elbow, you can see the solids coming out after you backflush so you know if you are getting it anywhere near clean enough and there's a hose valve right on it. If you have a plain clear elbow outside and the wand, you'd be back and forth trying to tell if it is clean enough. My 2 cents...
Cleaning your black tank will go a long way to helping, but it will not get rid of false readings, and only reduce them. Sure can't hurt to give it a go to see how it works for you.
Don't forget to add a chemical treatment every time just before you use the black tank again. The packet type is convenient.
