I've heard both opinions: go too much and don't go too much. I thought the way that you do and went too much. Who knows! How does one measure the weights properly? Tongue, overall, etc.?it has been suggested by many that I do that and I want to heed that good advice. Seems like tongue weight as compared to overall could be a problem. Just want to be safe on the road! I won't tow it otherwise.
