Blue Rhino propane tanks

Is anyone using these in their campers for heating etc. or are they for grilling only.

If it didn't say so on the tanks, I would tend to agree.

A legal "full" fill is only 16lbs anyway, so you're only being "shorted" 1lb of propane, which IMHO is a fair price for convenience.
  • ?Only if its not re-certified before they refill. Last tank I got from the dispenser rack was pretty old-so I assume they have the ability. I didn't see anything that said only refillable/certified tanks when we swapped out our of date tank. I would have rather kept my old one but 11:00 on a very cold winter night last year- I needed gas, was a mute point.

    Hmmm......sounds kind of unethical.

  • When the country store in the middle of nowhere has the replacement tanks and no fill tank, it fits the bill for less than $10 premium. They have their place and use.

What is the difference? LP gas is LP gas no matter what size vessel you buy it in.

    The actual gas is identical.

They only put 15lbs of a possible 20lbs in the tank. It's right on the cards and tanks.. Most people do not read the labels.

I usually keep the tank, refill several times, then exchange it for one with a newer date on the tank. That way, I can do not have to worry about getting it re-certified if the tank cert expires.
  • Propane is propane...doesn't matter what tank it come in...
But, Blue Rhino exchange tanks are not a good deal. Often are short filled and are always more expensive per gallon than having your own tanks filled.

    More convenient? (maybe)

  • Same product but keep in mind that you get less PP in a "full" bottle of Blue Rhino than you do refilling your own tank.
I used to sell BR. It's actually in their sale literature with the reason that this helps them keep cost down. Well ya, I guess it should!
