If your car port will keep the sun, rain and sleet totally off the sides as well as the top, then I would skip buying a TT cover which run about $200-250 for a decent one. Definitely DO NOT put a tarp over it which as many have said will chafe and wear off your paint or gelcoat! However, if your new car port will allow sun and the elements to hit the side front or back of your TT, then I would invest in a good TT cover to totally get you through this winter and then use it under your carport to prevent sun and rain from fading your finish and decals in the 6 months you will probably not be using it each year. You can tell who stores inside or uses a cover when you see TT's that are 4 years old or older that look brand new. Decals are the first sign of aging and are very expensive to replace..A good cover will prevent that fading and oxidation of the gelcoat..
