Bolts for lower awning brackets
I own a 2011 Forest River Surveyor Sport 295 and need some advice! I noticed the two bolts that secure the lower awning brackets had loosened on our last camping trip and when I tried to re tighten they just stripped out. Upon further inspection I noticed the lag bolts seemed rusty so I pulled them out and noticed that the wood inside the holes was mushy. The next thing I did was to grab some wooden doweling and pushed into the holes to see if I could feel something solid ( to screw some longer lag bolts into) and to my surprise pushed it easily in about 18" . So I go into the trailer and can clearly see that the dowel is between the vinyl flooring and the top layer of Luan flooring. After peeling back the vinyl flooring I found some mild water damage that I will have to address. What I want to know is should the lag bolts have been screwed through the fibreglass exterior and into the aluminum frame rather than into the Luan floor?
