I've been looking at various airbags, Timbrens and other things to shore up my rear end. (With my 5th wheel attached I'm pretty much at my max 3000# payload). I found this replacement kit that isn't a supplement but rather a replacement for the stock coils:Dodge RAM 2500 2014 Onwards Boss Air Bag Suspension Coil Replacement Kit LA67 | eBayOne thing that I'm questioning is each bag is rated for 2600# but my tires are each rated at 3400#. Are these adequate? Is the difference because the weight of the axle and wheels/tires are on the tires but only the bed sits on the bags? I suppose that could explain the difference. I'm excited at the prospect of running on air when unloaded since the ride of this truck is stiff and I don't need that 90% + of the time when I'm not towing. I just want to be sure I'm not reducing the capabilities of the truck since the ultimate goal is to have plenty of support when at/near the max payload.

I find it hard to believe that a 5er with those specs max out your TV!You must have a lot of stuff in the bed, the pin dry is only listed at 1,845#, that is about 20 percent , so at max GVWR you should be at 2,340#. The springs/bags do not hold up tires, wheels, brakes, disc's and differential. Chris

I've weighed and was actually 50# over my 10,000# GVWR. Best I can tell it goes something like this:B/W slider hitch = 275#Pin weight of loaded 5th = 2100#My weight that's not accounted for in payload = 75#Wife + 3 small kids = 250#Various stuff (kids backpacks, drinks, tablets, booster seats, jumper cables, flashlight, spare boots, etc, etc.) = 250#It all adds up to over 10,000#.

They seem to be a Firestone competitor in the market.
At any rate 5200 lbs is just the added weight to your existing coils which would be fine up to your RAWR and tire ratings IMO.

Trust me.... no one was more surprised than me. I've weighed and was actually 50# over my 10,000# GVWR. Best I can tell it goes something like this:

B/W slider hitch = 275#
Pin weight of loaded 5th = 2100#
My weight that's not accounted for in payload = 75#
Wife + 3 small kids = 250#
Various stuff (kids backpacks, drinks, tablets, booster seats, jumper cables, flashlight, spare boots, etc, etc.) = 250#

It all adds up to over 10,000#.

The product I linked was a full replacement for the coils not an assist. I like the idea of replacement since it allows me to run the rear end like a 1970 Cadillac when not towing, which for me is most of the time.

If all I need is an assist bag it's easy. I'm mainly concerned with abandoning my coils and ensuring I still have the capacity to load right up to the max.

Why are you worried about GVWR?

Are you over FAWR/RAWR. If not I would hitch up and enjoy camping.

This is what I was thinking too. BUT, it would be nice to have more capability. The 2600/side would seem to be the bare minimum. This is assuming the axle, brakes, wheels/tires weigh 1600#. Who knows for sure but it's in the ballpark. I would have guessed less. In any case, I'd think a full air suspension replacement should have more "extra" capacity.

The truck does bounce a bit more than I'd like over uneven roads. Nothing I can't live with or that feels unsafe. Basically, I'm at a crossroad. I'm either going to just buy some cheap "helper" airbags (which do nothing to help soften the unloaded ride). Or, go for a full rear suspension replacement which would help my load while towing AND give me a nice soft ride while not towing (90% of the time and this truck is BUMPY).

The bounce is likey shocks. Have you considered starting there?

How much air pressure is in the tires when you aren't towing?
