Hi,
I live in an area, where, in winter time, if the power goes off for 12 hours the houses will begin to freeze. To get out of the snow zone I'd have to drive ND, SD, NB, and part of Kansas. I can't possibly do that on a single tank of fuel. I have to hope for an extremely local problem.
My RV is highly modified to allow for winter use, but keeping the fresh water tank full is not really an option, unless I have a source of electricity, to keep the interior above freezing. Right now it is -7 F (-21 C). It takes 75 watts per degree f so my energy requirements are 5625 watts or about 19200 btu's to keep the rv at 68 f (20 c). Given the size of my tank--I have three days of heat.
For that reason, I am planning an 80% upgrade in the capacity of the solar system.
As one of the earlier posts said, there really is no place to bug out to.
