brake controller settings?

What's a good setting for a Kekonsha primus IQ brake controller pulling a 5k # TT ? I currently have it set on 10 out off a 36 max. I personally have not pulled the trailer with the this controller but pulled it with a different truck with different controller with a sliding scale.

  • Take the trailer to a large parking lot and practice braking. Increase the gain by increments of one and try again. When you reach gain that locks up the brakes, back off one and you're all set.

Rule of thumb is as high as you can without locking the trailer wheels when you trigger it to full on manually (no vehicle brakes) at 10-15 mph on a paved road.

  • You're gonna have to play around to get a "feeling" for what is right for you. Your truck really should not have to struggle to stop, but then again, you don't want the trailer to "pull" you truck to a stop.

For what it's worth on my F150 integrated controller i'm on 7
  • I reckon it's impossible to say what would be right on your controller with your load. I found that I was struggling to get the rig to stop, so I upped my controller and it made a huge difference.

Nice truck, lightly loaded. I have the same truck essentially, and it's fairly heavily loaded.
