No matter how dependable your brand of vehicle is, you need to face the reality that every dealership has a service department for a reason. Buying a particular brand "so that X won't happen" is just wishful thinking based more on marketing hype than reality. You and your family would be better off having a plan of action for emergency situations like these. There ARE ways to slow and stop a vehicle when the brakes fail. Using the parking brake, manually engaging the trailer brakes, and shifting to a lower gear are all tools that you can use.
What about tire failures? Are you prepared for that emergency?
