We live at 4100 ASL on a hill in Bend .
We drop 500 feet every time we go downtown .
Every morning I follow people down the hill with their brakes on .
I just use 3rd gear in my Duramax .
My wife uses 3rd gear in her Mercedes .
My guess is that 80 % of drivers do not use compression braking .
That certainly is one advantage to the new cars that have 6 or 7 speed auto transmissions .
Original pads for my 2002 duramax , bought new .
