Brakes

Bought new brake assemblies thinking the old pads were too thin. Turns out the new ones are about 1/2 the thickness of pickup pads. Why? Now I have a brand new set but don't think I'll need them for another 10 years.

Another indication of how cheaply they build TT and 5ers to save $10.
  • I would return them.
You probably have drum brakes (shoes) not disk brakes (pads). But yes new ones can be thinner than older ones.
  • I've noticed all trailer brake shoes are thin compared to auto and truck shoes.
  • it is probably more likely that the magnetic contact surface will "fail" (ie. wear down) while before the break shoe itself.
