Brand new owners today!

I have been lurking this site for about 4 months. We were given a 1980 travel trailer in Sept.2012 and loved using it for deer season camping and extra room for guests. However Tuesday, we decided to look at floor plans in case we ever decided to buy a new trailer. We looked at more than 50 trailers in the town closest to us and saw prices from $25k (manager's sale price) to $32k. We headed to what we thought was a used trailer lot. The owner told us about this amazing deal he had on a brand he wasn't carrying anymore. We looked at it and it was the same floor plan we had seen on several lots for a sale price of $25k. He had it priced for $18k and offered us $2k for our 1980. We called our bank, had it financed by 3pm yesterday and brought home our 2014 Salem 27rkss by Forest River.
My question is, did we get taken or not?

  • I find that when buying most things it's not a good idea to second guess yourself. You will always and I mean ALWAYS find someone who got it for less or knows of a place you could have gotten it for way less or knows someone who knows someone. I tell you it has been my experience and as old as I am I have plenty of that it has been my experience that none of them know what they are talking about. So with that said enjoy your trailer. If you find someone that says OH I could have gotten that a lot cheaper just tell them yeah but I wanted to pay the higher price I like doing that keeps the economy going. Enjoy the trailer have fun that's worth more than any GREAT DEAL!
  • No it looks like the going average price is $18K but you surely could have negotiated more fairly easily.
