I think you need to view the truck as a system. If you boost the engine, then you need to work on the tranny and converter, then look at the transfer case (if applicable) and then the drive shafts and diffs, and axels and on and on. A vicious circle. Then, can I get it fixed 500 (right now) to 5000 miles away from home without working on it myself, cause most campgrounds will not allow it.
On the other hand, if it gives you pleasure, why not? Just understand the full consequences of you decision. Make sure your tool fits the job, do not drive nails with a pipe wrench.
