Bring back the shine

Has anyone found a product that will bring back the shine on an older aluminum sided TT? I have tried nearly all the waxes, cleaner waxes, polishing compound, etc with not very good results with any of them. I sure would like to find something as it is looking dull.

  • Take a look at this post. Also, there was a member who did the whole cab of his truck. If I can find it I will post a link.

  • Fwiw, I skipped the tsp step on my fiberglass without any problems. Again, don't know about your aluminum, but i did use bkf and rmp on my aluminum bay doors with good results.
  • Well, I took your advice and got some TSP. Got home and started reading the instructions on the label. It states "do not use on painted aluminum siding that you do not intend to repaint" or something just like that. Oh well, I ain't wanting to paint the trailer, so I guess I'll keep looking.
  • For weathered, painted aluminum, you probably need a two-step process. First, remove any surface crud and oxidation in the paint (I like to use TSP or a TSP substitute for this). Second, apply a sealant like a polymer or carnuba wax.
  • I put RMP on our white painted aluminum roof. It goes on just like the fiberglass sides, shines just as good, and stopped all the white streaks that would be down the windshield after a rain. That was 2 years ago and I am noticing a little white on the windshield after a rain again so I'm going to have to do a couple more coats soon!
  • I have not seen any posts about anyone using RMP or Zep on an aluminum sided camper. How bout it folks.
  • Red Max Pro, or Zep floor sealer works great on fiberglass units in that condition. I don't know how it has done on aluminum, but you might search either of those. I think its running about 99.9% "happy campers" among those who have done the process.
