Ive had both and never gave it a thought , although I knew not to drill or weld to my 03` because it was hydroformed
When I was recently putting a flatbed on my 99` I was surprised to see that the frame is spliced together by the front leaf shackle hanger , and its just held together with about 6 large rivets on each side, the engineers at dodge know best I guess
I had the misfortune of having my cummins block crack -#53 - once in a while bad things happen to good products
If the frame cracked in between the rear cab mts and the front bed towers that would seem to maybe have something to do with the cabover movement that we see when things get rough?
Had to go look at mine , its all good
