I put 30 gallons of water in my diesel tank with the truck running. The engine died before It was full. I contacted the station about this and then later the tank company and they said they would pay me for my time and materials. They paid me $50 an hour plus towing plus filter to a tune of about $600. They told me they were happy with my claim because they replaced several newer truck fuel systems to the tune of 10+ grand each. Truck was my 98 12V. No damage was done. New trucks not so lucky.
Bottom line tell him to have the entire system replaced and turn it into his Insurance company and fuel supplier.
