Allow me to explain.
As you start fueling (and NOT at full pressure), let the nozzle rest on the lip of the fuel tube, just enough to see fuel coming out. THEN if it's ok, put it all the way in. At least with my truck I can do this.
It's good insurance against this sort of disaster. And yes, I do this almost every fuelup. Takes a couple seconds. Also, the odor of diesel is quite different from that of gasoline.
And now I will do the same. Explain.
The new Rams, as I have, do not have a fuel cap. There is a flap, down the fuel fill tube, that has to be pushed open by the nozzle in order for any fuel to get into the tank.
Short of this flap there is a vent to prevent any fluids other than fuel from getting into the tank.
So to pump fuel, the nozzle is already hidden from view, preventing any color sampling by the owner.
And, for those cases where one runs out of fuel, Ram furnished a long spout funnel in the truck, which also has to be pushed past this flap in order to fill from a jerry can or other fuel can.
Mind you, as I said before, in order to color sample with mine, I would have to just pour the fuel on the ground.
It is a scary thought, refueling with what one thinks is good diesel only to end up with something that will do serious damage to your engine.
