I doubt if the fuel supplier has a "right" to dictate what repairs will be done.
If they forced a "patch" type repair, Once they pay they are assuming liability, which they already verbally have?
Insurance will be involved and they will not want an ongoing liability hanging over their heads so I would bet , they will want it done correct, first time, with warranty intact.
Likely GM has a documented procedure for repair to retain warranty in this type of instance.
