Buddy is now driving a ticking time bomb

I talked to this guy today.
He said the truck was at about 1/4 tank when he refilled it, and the ratio for gasoline and diesel in the underground tank is unknown to him. He drove it around town for two days before he parked it and it wouldn't restart after sitting for 45 min. He figures the fuel settled and separated in this time. Driving around it ran rough a time or two, but wasn't too bad. He's not a "car guy".
The fueling station took full responsibility and paid the repair bill.
The guy contacted the insurance company for the fuel transporter, and asked about the "what if" for long term damage. They told him he could see how it goes and contact them in a couple months if problems develop, but their basic line was that the "dealer said it was fine". In short, he's feeling kind of stuck. He has been tossing the idea around of selling the truck or trading it off.
So far the truck has been fine after the fuel system was decontaminated and the fuel filter was changed.
