Legality aside, If you don't have $10k to buy one then you won't have the money to build one! Also there are plenty of very good trailers out there for $5-6k. You just have to shop wisely.
It's not all that expensive to build your own trailer i built one last year using old scrap that I had lying around i built my own axles using steel pipe and the spindles off an old junk car i was hauling off to the scrap yard the only money I spent was on u bolts and the lights and the hitch total less than 100 dollars you will be surprised what you can do if you can weld and use your mind and be creative i am going to build one for my neighbor who has a landscaping business and needs a trailer to haul equipment but he can't afford to go out and buy a new one right now
