Bully Dog or other brand diesel engine monitor

I recently bought my first diesel truck. A 2013 GMC 3500 ......I am wondering if I need to know the information that a monitor will give me. Isn't the gages on the truck enough information to safely...

Extra gauges are not as important on the new trucks. Their computers protect the engine and tranny pretty well. Also there is a fair amount of info available via the dash display if you poke around. Adding anything the raises a flag to the dealer regarding warranty is not a good idea!
