BunkHouse RV's, why so many more TT, then Fifth wheels?

I'm in the market for a bunkhouse Fifth wheel. While browsing on line there are so many more travel trailers that fit the needs I am after. I want a fifth wheel because they tow so much better then any travel trailer I've hauled. I don't think I'm after any advice, just venting a little here.

    x2

We like 5th wheels, but getting into one with a growing family is just way too much.
  • The simple answer: RV manufacturers make what sells. No profit in making something that has a limited demand.

Evidently, bunkhouses sell better in a TT configuration.

  • TT sleeping arrangements > FW sleeping arrangements
Class C sleeping arrangements > class A sleeping arrangements
    Catering to different demographics.
  • You're all right. I have 3 girls, 12, 8, and 5. Always Bikes, a dog, and firewood. As far as budget goes, I'd like to stay at or under about $40,000. I've seen some toy haulers I really like, but not for $60,000.

My guess bunks mean kids kids mean more bikes and what have you. That means more junk in the bed of your truck?

    Yep that's me to a T.
  • There are several types of RV folks.

    1) Young families with kids - want lots of bunks - limited budget - small (1/2 ton) tow vehicle used as a daily driver - almost always want a low price. TT is the market. Folks who drive a heavier truck (3/4 ton) for their daily work would opt for a 5th wheel bunkhouse if their budget works.

    2) Slightly older families with teenagers - need room for kids to sleep, but comfort for mom and dad. Need lots of room for bikes, or motorized toys, etc. - Toy Haulers are in this market.

    3) Grandparents - need occasional sleeping room for kids - bunks are not necessary but nice - 5th wheel with maybe a small bunkhouse for these folks.

    4) Grandparents with almost no overnight visitors - want as much living space as possible and a nice kitchen - have a dedicated tow vehicle (1 ton) - big 5ers

As with any market - the price and profit goes up as the size goes up. The higher end 5ers get all the notice and are quite nice.

But every manufacturer does carry bunkhouse models - just finding them is harder in some price ranges.

As far as carrying stuff - look at the Open Range - Mesa Ridge MF346FLR - big front living room, big kitchen/dining in the middle, big rear bedroom - and over 200 cu ft of storage in the front and rear basements - including room for 2 10ft long kayaks and 4 bicycles.

    Scroll down half way
