Busted Television-Any Ideas?

Hi Everyone, loaded up for a trip last week and banged into our 32" Jensen. Screen looked fine until you turned it on and you can see where the impact on the crystals were and now there are dozens of rainbow colored lines all over the tv.

Jensen I guess is known for "RV Televisions" hence the 300-400 price tage I've seen advertised. I've seen LG and Vizio's for half of that and my question is, do I need to replace with an "RV TV" that has been advertised as handling the rigors of traveling? My plan was to take the mounting bracket off and take it to a Target/Best Buy etc.. and determine if the same bracket can be used in another brand tv. I'd love to hear what tv brands are used in your trailer. Thanks

  • Thanks everyone! I had a feeling I could something other what is advertised in CW as a "RV TV". Looks like I'm headed out to WalMart or Target.

We bought a new 40" LED tv to replace the 32" Jensen. The new tv weighs about 1/3 of the other one. Way, way nicer picture too.
It would sure be nice if some other companies would step up and go into the RV electronics end of things.
What gets me is that a 120V 32" Jensen costs more than a 40" brand X LED TV. Why do RV MFGs insist on installing the Jensen/Furrion junk that costs more when they could be installing a better product?
It might cost us more but I would bet it's what the mfg's got the best deal on. They buy them by the truck load.
  • I was at Costco, a lot of the new TV's (televisions not Tow Vehicles) use a wall wart to step the 120V down to 12V DC.....

  • We have a Samsung in the bedroom. We do take it off the wall when we travel. It gets moved around a lot, from the inside of the trailer to the outside, to the front porch at home and back again. No problems, but it travels laying flat on the bed. We've had it for about 3 years now.

The Samsung we had in our previous camper (over 6 years) is now in our bedroom at home. Still working just fine!
  • I would go to a discount store and buy a 32" tv, seen them for 150 at Wallyworld.

Was down at WALMART the other day and they still had a few Christmas boxes deals sitting out. Didn't look at any of the particulars. Might find a good deal for you...

Get the best 120VAC TV deal you can find. If you want to run on 12VDC pick up a low wattage pure sine wave Power Inverter - 300watts is probably great and will cover a few others low wattage items you may want on when not on the power grid...

  • No such thing as an "RV TV."
Except that the TV's they put stock in most RV's are the cheapest available.
Find any TV that fits your space and replace the cheapo, broken Jensen.
  • I went to best buy and bought a normal 32" HD flatscreen LED for the trailer. It's out there in the trailer in all weather from cold to hot storage, and has been in there for thousands of miles of travel. Works well.
  • Mounting brackets are universal in same screen sized TV's. The Jensen is one of the poorest screens sold, that's why it's in your RV. Any new screen will be an upgrade over the Jensen.

I have a 32" Magnavox on recommendation from another Forum member and my own quality assessment at the store. It draws the lowest power in it's class and the picture quality is good.
