Shiner, are you deleted and if so how do you handle the emission testing? I've been toying with the idea of deleting for years but more so now that I'm out of warranty. Only problem is I have to get tested every other year now in my county. I'm not sure I would flag or not since the tuner should quash any emission related flags, but I really don't want to deal with putting everything back on every other year.
Yes, and there are no emissions testing for diesels where I live in Texas. My cousin, who is also deleted, lives near Travis county so he has to get an OBD emissions check that makes sure there are no codes. None ever show up because the tuner turns them off. Keep in mind that we don't roll coal and get ourselves noticed.
Another option is to do an emissions intact tuning which basically turns off the EGR and uses the SCR more so all of the emissions are taken care of after then engine so it can run more efficiently. Power wise this is just a little less than a full delete of the DPF/SCRm but you still have to worry about emissions system failures.
Keep in mind that if you do a lot of city driving, you will likely not see much of an improvement in mileage with a delete or emissions intact tune. The more highway or steady state driving you do the more gains you will see in regards to mpg.
Here in GA, they roll a mirror under vehicles to make sure everything is there.
How heavy is the camper? Could you go with one of the new gassers to avoid the diesel emmissions nightmare?
You would have to really know what one looks like to tell mine is not exactly stock. Most people who perform these inspections do not know and many more do not even care since diesels are exempt.
I can probably get away with towing my trailer with a gaser, but then I would have to drive an N/A gaser which is worse than dealing with emissions to me. If they were able to find a way to put a turbocharged V8 gaser in a HD/SD then I would consider it, but I don't like driving N/A gasers especially when towing. Been there, done that, never again. I like having power below 3k rpms where it is more usable in every gear.
