Buy a 2020 Ram diesel?

Two questions for the Ram fans:

1. If the worst happens, can I put an older junk yard, say 2010 and up, Cummins in the new trucks? No emissions testing where I live, and my first Cummins was in a 1971 Ford dump, I know that one would not fit.

2. What is the best forum for the Ram diesels?

Thanks for the help.

All of the diesels have the same emissions equipment he is wanting to avoid.

The way I read it is, the OP is concerned that a 2020 Ram diesel will self destruct and it will be necessary to replace the 2020 engine with an older diesel.
The OP said there are no emissions testing where they live, so is not trying to avoid emissions equipment.
I don't know much about diesels, I could be missing something in the OP.
  • No more new trucks for me. The good used ones last a long time.

  • Anything can fit with enough money and modification. Although a delete kit which includes new turbo back exhaust, tuner, and EGR delete will cost around $1,700 which will end up paying for itself in the fuel economy increase in about 50-75k miles depending on fuel prices.

If the CP4 of the new Cummins is a concern, a few places already has CP3 conversions the 2019+ Cummins for about $2,500 which you can get some of that back by selling your CP4 back to them. Both of these would likely be cheaper than and less time consuming than replacing the engine with an old one.

The cumminsforum.com or turbodieselregister.com are probably better places if you want more specific information on Cummins diesels and mods. However, modifications are more welcomed on cumminsforum than they are at turbodieselregister or here so that is the place to go if you want to talk mods.
  • The 2020 Ram has a 5 yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. What is it that you figure is the "worst that could happen"?
