I wouldn't say that it is wrong. Lance uses a limiting strut. Adventurer uses a rubber bump stop.
The Lance strut was used on their flagship model the 1181 for many years.
Both methods work well when the installation is executed properly.
Heck, a friend with a Big Foot had a wind gust actually bend the door. And that's with the door installed the "right" way.
