How the taxes work depends on the states involved.
I highly recommend getting a financial institution involved.
When I bought my present TT, It was in Ohio, and I live in AZ. I had the cash to pay for it outright.... But I took out a loan with my credit union for the transaction. They handled everything! They were all over the dealer and involved in the taxes registration, etc. They had a vested interest in making sure it went correctly, and I did not get screwed. Before I left to get it it, the credit union had me come in to get my AZ plates, and the cashiers check for the dealer. It was the easiest large transaction I have ever done.
I paid the loan off shortly after getting it home.
