So... no validity to the notion that if a 6.0l Powerstroke was going to eat itself, it would probably have done so by now? What if it's already been 'bulletproofed'?
Already been bulletproofed is another story. Presuming everything needed was done. Even at that, I’d consider that truck better suited for an “enthusiast “ about diesels. That said, most who have a cherry 6.0 that was bulletproofed properly. Studs, egr, oil cooler and the small stuff want as much as any other diesel. The “deals” are in the ones that haven’t been done yet.
Gassers, in general, I’d stop looking at 150kmi to be able to expect another 100k reasonably.
Depends what your appetite for repairs are. Hard to say ____ has been perfect for 150kmiles, it’s a perfect truck! If it’s been perfect for that long, it’ll probably need a buncha parts, not necessarily the engine.
Example my 07. Its the “perfect” truck because it’s in great shape and I’d drive it anywhere, but it’s had shocks, brakes, hydro boost pump, injectors, u joints, unit bearings, new clutch, water pump and a host of other minor stuff replaced. With that, the front end, new batteries and front driveshaft will need to be done in the next 10-50k Miles. Then the rotors will be wore out. They’re original. By then, fan clutch, alt,AC compressor will be on their last legs.
Most of those items have been replaced either pre emptively or at least well before catastrophic failure.
Now, aside from the diesel parts, the rest are the same of any HD pickup, but what’s the budget? I’ve got $5-8 grand in parts from 100-160k Miles. Double that at least if I paid a shop for the work.
Hence my reccomendation about parts replaced vs miles alone being a determination.
